Background checks
A background check that a licensed investigator stands behind — not a printout from a consumer website.
What it is
A J.I.S background check is an investigator-led review of identity, criminal and civil history, and other records that can change a hiring, a partnership, or a family decision. It is not a one-click consumer report and it is not a credit score. We look for names, dates of birth, addresses, court activity, and the gaps that a cheap database misses. The scope is written before we start so you know what we will search and what we will not. Findings are facts, not a character grade. If a record is sealed, restricted, or simply not there, the report says that.
How J.I.S handles it in Texas
We work Texas identifiers first: last known cities, counties, and the courts that actually hold the file. Out-of-state history is pulled when the person has a paper trail beyond Texas. Counsel, employers, and private clients all come through the same Helotes desk. We do not sell a packaged “pass/fail” badge. If FCRA rules or another statute limit what we can share for a hiring decision, we say so and stay inside the law. License A24038101 is on the work. Turnaround depends on the courts and databases we have to wait on, not on a marketing clock.
What the client receives
You receive a written report of what we found, where we looked, and what we could not confirm. Source notes stay with the file in the Client Portal. We do not bury a hit in fine print, and we do not dress up an empty search as a clean bill. If you need the same person run again after a move or a name change, the prior file is already there. Questions go to the investigator who ran the check, not a call center.
Who uses it
Attorneys use background checks before they put a witness or a party on the stand. Employers and business owners use them before they hand someone keys, money, or a contract. Private clients use them before a roommate, a caregiver, or a new relationship becomes a household. Insurers use them when a claim or a policy decision needs more than an application. If you already have a lawyer, we write the report so they can read it without a translator.
Questions we hear
- Is this the same as a website background search?
- No. Consumer sites scrape whatever they can. A J.I.S check is scoped, reviewed by a licensed investigator, and written so you can see what was searched and what was not.
- How long does a background check take?
- Simple identity and Texas criminal checks can move in days. Civil history, other states, or hidden-risk reviews take longer because courts and record custodians do not all answer the same day.
- Can you run anyone?
- We need a lawful purpose and enough identifiers to be sure we have the right person. We will not invent a reason, and we will not run a name that is too thin to distinguish from someone else.
