Child custody
Observation written for counsel — possession, visitation, and household conditions, not a parenting lecture.
What it is
A child-custody investigation documents what a licensed investigator can actually see: exchanges, household conditions, who is present, and how a schedule runs. It is not a social study, a custody evaluation, or a recommendation about who should have the child. We do not interview the child as a therapist and we do not take sides in the parenting fight. The product is a dated record your attorney can use. If you want someone to tell the court who the better parent is, that is a different professional. If you want facts, that is this file.
How J.I.S handles it in Texas
We take these files when there is a lawful purpose and a Texas case or a Texas household in the picture. Surveillance and locates are the usual tools. We stay off private property unless we have a right to be there. We do not serve as a parenting coordinator. The Helotes office staffs work in Bexar County and in every other Texas county the family actually uses for exchanges or residences. If both households are in Texas, we can cover both ends of the schedule. License A24038101 is on the assignment. We will not take a file whose only goal is to harass the other parent.
What the client receives
You receive a written report of observed exchanges, activity, and conditions, with photo or video when the post allows it. The tone is factual. We do not add adjectives that a judge will throw out. The Client Portal holds the report, the media, and the messages so counsel can pull them without a second email chain. If we saw nothing useful on a given day, that day is still in the log. Follow-up days are scoped before they are worked.
Who uses it
Family-law attorneys use this work when possession, visitation, or a safety allegation needs more than a text thread. Parents and grandparents use it when they already have counsel or are about to. Courts do not hire us; the client does, and the report is written as if it may be read in a Texas courtroom. If there is an emergency involving a child’s safety, call 911. Then call us if you still need a licensed investigator on the record.
Questions we hear
- Will you recommend who should have custody?
- No. We document what we observe. Parenting recommendations belong to the court, a custody evaluator, or your attorney — not to this firm.
- Do you talk to the child?
- We do not put a child through an interview as part of surveillance. If a lawyer needs a different kind of interview, that is scoped separately and only when it is appropriate.
- Can you cover exchanges in another Texas city?
- Yes. The firm works statewide. Tell us the cities and the schedule and we will say who can be on the post.
