Process serving

Lawful service of Texas papers, including people who have already ducked a knock.

What it is

Process serving is the lawful delivery of citations, petitions, and other papers a court requires someone to receive. Texas rules are picky about who may serve, how the attempt is made, and how the return is written. A missed detail can stall a case. J.I.S serves papers in Texas as a licensed investigative firm, not as a gig app. We take routine addresses and we take subjects who have already avoided a prior attempt. We are not your attorney and we will not choose the pleading. We will tell you if the papers or the address you have are not enough to attempt service.

How J.I.S handles it in Texas

The corporate office in Helotes dispatches service anywhere in the state the respondent actually is. We read the documents, the last known address, and any prior failed attempts before we go to the door. Evasive subjects get a locate first when the address is stale. Attempts are documented so the return can stand up. Service outside Texas is a different assignment; we do not pretend a Texas license covers another state’s rules. If substitute service or another court-approved method is required, that is a conversation with your counsel, not a shortcut we invent in the field.

What the client receives

You receive a return of service or a written account of attempts, dates, times, and what happened at the door. Photos of the location are included when they help the affidavit. The file stays in the Client Portal with the rest of the case. If we cannot complete service, you get the attempts and a recommended next step — a better address, a different window, or a motion your attorney may need to file. We do not guarantee that a particular person will answer the door.

Who uses it

Texas attorneys send us citations and related papers when they want a licensed investigator on the attempt, especially after a cheap serve has failed. Businesses and private clients come through counsel or on their own when they already have papers ready to go. Family-law, civil, and other Texas filings all come across the same desk. If you do not have papers yet, talk to a lawyer first; we serve what the court issued, we do not draft it.

Questions we hear

Do you serve papers outside Texas?
Texas service is the work we take under license A24038101. Out-of-state service is a different assignment with different rules. Ask us before you assume we can take it.
What if the person is avoiding service?
We document attempts and, when the address is stale, we skip-trace a better one. Substitute service and other court remedies are for your attorney to request. We will tell you when the field file supports that conversation.
How fast can you attempt service?
Once we have good papers and a workable address, we schedule the first attempt from the urgency you give us. Statewide travel and evasive subjects add time. We do not invent a same-day promise that the county cannot support.
